Key Features
The roomy and well-built Volkswagen Touran is a great choice for busy families, especially those that require plenty of versatility in a vehicle.
Design
With its wide-opening rear doors, the Touran provides easy access for rear-row travellers. There’s lots of room inside this seven-seater, too, which is due in no small part to the vehicle’s high roofline. The second row of seats offers more than enough space for three adults to travel in comfort. It also slides backwards and forwards for added levels of comfort and/or flexibility. The vehicle’s third row, meanwhile, is especially ideal for younger travellers. When rows two and three are folded, they provide an extended and level boot floor – and allow 1,857-litres of cargo capacity to become available.
Performance
For a good combination of performance and efficiency, choose a model fitted with a 2.0-litre 150bhp diesel engine. This delivers 340Nm of torque, 0-60mph in a little over nine seconds, up to 61.4mpg, and CO2 emissions from 120g/km. The greenest engine choice is a 1.6-litre 115bhp diesel unit, which manages up to 67.36mpg while producing emissions from just 111g/km.
Technology and safety
For your listening pleasure, an eight-speaker sound system is included as standard, featuring a touchscreen interface that allows easy operation. AUX and USB inputs are also provided, as is Bluetooth connectivity, which makes it simple to stream music from compatible devices and enjoy hands-free mobile phone communications.
Rated five-out-of-five for crash-test competency by Euro NCAP, the Touran comes with a host of passive safety features, including nine airbags. An array of driver aids is fitted too, such as Autonomous Emergency Braking, which substantially reduces the risk of low-speed collisions.
