New Volkswagen T-Cross

The compact-yet-practical Volkswagen T-Cross is a great choice for professional go-getters, business users, and young families alike.

Design

The smallest of Volkswagen’s SUVs, the T-Cross is ideal for city driving since its compact dimensions allow it to easily navigate traffic-congested roads and fit into tight parking spaces. Nevertheless, a five-door body ensures that getting in and out of the car is never a chore, even for back-row travellers. What’s more, the interior of this stylish vehicle is much bigger than you might anticipate. An elevated roof line ensures that headroom is generous, for instance. Certainly, the car provides more than enough space for four adults to travel in comfort – and the rear row slides back and forth. Depending on where the rear seats are positioned, boot space ranges between 385 and 455 litres. When these seats are dropped, 1,281 litres of cargo capacity is freed up.

Performance

Entry-level ‘S’ trims are installed with a 1.0-litre petrol engine, which manages up to 58mpg and produces CO2 emissions from 112g/km. This 94bhp unit also allows the car to go from 0-60mph in a little over seven seconds. For greater potency, upgrade to the ‘SE’ grade, whose 1.0-litre 113bhp petrol engine enables acceleration from 0-60mph in roughly 6.3 seconds.

Technology and safety

This well-equipped SUV features a six-speaker, touchscreen sound system and Bluetooth connectivity as standard. An eight-inch touchscreen Discover Navigation system is an optional extra that comes as standard with R-Line grades.

The T-Cross has been awarded a maximum five-star crash-test rating by Euro NCAP. This is in recognition of the car’s extensive range of passive protective features and driver aids. For instance, Automatic Emergency Braking is included and uses onboard sensors that can detect the presence of pedestrians and cyclists.
